I have a 7 month old paint that was left over and stored in the shed. I need to do some touch ups but the paint had separated. I've mixed and mixed it....now it is painting on lumpy and thick. Is there anythin I can add to it like a touch of water or something? I don't think putting it through a muslin would do it?
The whole thing is lumpy, i put my brush in the paint and its thick and what comes on my brush is small lumpy spongy lumps :(

Firstly, is the paint oil based paint or water based. Assuming its oil based, which should be clear from the instructions on the can as it contains solvent, to dilute it you need to add white spirit. Do this in small quantities then mix the paint and add the spirit until you have the correct consistency. To remove solid lumps you have to use a wide mesh sieve or colander just as you would for flour when baking a cake - so if the paint cost more than a sieve carry on, if not dump it.

If it is a water based paint it will be a vinyl silk or matt finish, these you can add water to
