Ok, maybe I am a big baby, but nothing seems to control my pain. I am constantly in pain. I have been dealing with this injury for almost 2 months now. I have had perioRAB where the pain had let up and I thought I was getting better, but my body sure did let me know that the problem still exist. My doc has tried me on various pain meRAB from motrin, darvocet, methadone, and dilaudid which was increase from 2mg to 4mg and believe it or not none of these meRAB seem to help. At best my pain level is around a 5 and worst at a 10 of course. I am going through pt and every thing. I have a appt monday with the pain doc, I am suppose to get the epidural inj. I guess. So i wonder if this does not work then what. I think as nice as my doc is she is getting fed up. She calls me her mystery pt. She does not understand why I am having nerve pain and symptoms and the mri showed no nerve compression and the emg was neg except for tarsal tunnel syndrome. I have the lower back pain all the time and my left bttock, hip and leg down to calf hurts like hell. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced this and what was the outcome. Thank you

Hi, I have sciatica so I can relate to your pain. I have a protruding disc and a degenerative disc so I know what my problem is. L4 and L5 are messed up. I have stabbing and burning pain in the buttocks, and pain going down my leg into my calf and somtimes down to my ankle. My foot sometimes tingles also it can drive you crazy. I get little relief it hurts on a scale of 1-10 about a 5 most days.

I tried the drx-9000 for a week, but couldn't afford to go 6 weeks which is what the chriopractor recommended for me to see the benefits. the cost is unreal $4,200.00 and insurance does not cover it. So I'm holding out for a little longer. I try to ice it, which I would rather put heat on it, but they told me that only causes swelling. I wish I had more helpful information. take care

Blessings,

Hi Rachel,
I can't understand why they say it's not nerve pain, it is classic symptoms of nerve pain. I would try to get the neurontin prescribed and if that does the trick then it IS nerve pain. My dr. told me the only 100% way to know whats wrong is to go in and see it with your own eyes. I can tell you that I travel 3 hrs one way to see him since he moved, I have NEVER had a more honest, caring dr. in my life and I have went thru quite a few. I do hope i'm 100% wrong for your sake. I hope youfind help very very soon.

God Bless

Hi Rachel!!

I am so sorry you are in so much pain and I pray that the epidural injections give you some much needed relief.

It sounRAB like you really like your doctor but I have to tell you that it troubles me that she calls you her mystery patient. Isn't she admitting that she does not know what the problem is? If she has done all the normal tests (xrays, mri, ct scans), I think you should get a second/third opinion no matter how much you like her.

I do agree with the other posters; its sounRAB like you have nerve involvement without a doubt.

I wish you good luck and pray that you will find the answers you so desperately need. Take care and keep us posted.

Hi Rachel, I hope they find a solution to the pain. Its really debilitating to be in that much pain, and the longer it goes on, the more it wears on you.

Did they say if its sciatica? You mention pt, are you seeing a physical therapist? I have peroneal neuropathy and lurabar radiculopathy that they diagnosed after the emg (and some other symptoms), but the PT has done wonders for my muscle pain and leg cramping I get by doing a kind of massage (hurts like the dickens when she does it, but really feels much better afterwarRAB). Most of my back pain was from the 'muscle guarding' (as the PT called it). My PT gave me a series of stretches and exercises and I find that having them to do also has a beneficial mental aspect ... I don't feel so hopeless if I can do something to help control the discomfort.

Have you tried Neurontin? it is a med that they found helps with nerve pain. I have had a failed fusion DDD nerve damage, and many other fun things. My PM tried the Neurontin and it worked wonders for me. Not I get to deal with the arthrits lol. But I am cheerfull about it.

And never say your a baby when it come to pain. Also do not worry what frienRAB think, your the one in pain not them. And I think I can speak for many people when I say we make due with what we have and we still chugg along.

Hope this helps.

Rachel,

I'm so sorry that your not getting any relief yet. How many Dr.s have you seen for this? Have you had a second opinion yet? If not, please get one from either a neuro or ortho spine doc.

Hopefully the epidural or Pt will give you some relief. The only thing that used to work for me years ago, was a hot bath, I mean as hot as I could take it. I know they say that I'll make you swell, but it must have made me swell in other areas..haha Because it did relax me.

Originally, I had a tear in my disc and even though I had an Mri, they didn't see it.

I sure hope you can get to the bottom of whats going on. Please don't call yourself a baby. Your pain is real and all of us here have it as well, maybe not the same all over, but it's real, just like yours. Hang in there!!

Take care and please keep us posted on what you find out,

Bernie

Thank you all for your responses. My doc did say if the epi do not work she was going to refer me to a neurosurgeon. I do have 2 disk herniations and mild retrolithesis which they only saw on the first x ray. How is that possible I wonder? The rethro did not show on the mri. Anyways I am taking neurontin and it has not touched me, I am up to 1800mg a day. So, I will look into a second opinion to see what is really going on. Once again thanks alot guys. Many cyberhugs to you all you a great. I do not know what I would without you.

Rachel:)

Rachel,

Have you tried Inversion (hanging upside down). I have several herniated discs and for the lower back nothing has given relief like Inversion for me. You can find different types of tables so you don't have to hang by the ankels, and you do not have to hang 100% upside down to get relief. It did take a few weeks to start getting relief but I found it a big help.
