My father is 56 years old, and back in April, he lost his job. He was a computer repairman working as a contract worker, and he often repaired computers in many state-run offices, prisons, and other such places. Before he was a computer repairman, he had been a radio disc jockey for over 25 years, and the owner of a couple of private businesses back in the 1990s, which he later sold.
Anyway, ever since he lost his job back in April, he has become a pain in the asss. He complains about nearly everything under the sun, and has developed an unhealthy obsession with politics. He sits and watches these negative liberal cable television talk shows every evening religiously, and he begins mimicking them like a mindless parrot.
I have really seen a big change in the way my father carries himself, also. He has developed a very negative tone about life in general. Nobody can stand to be around him anymore, because all he seems to want to do is bicker about politics and what is wrong with the Republicans. It is as if he has become possessed and obsessed with it!
Personally, the fact that he hates Republicans does not really matter to me, as I am not a political person. However, what does bother me is that he talks about it so much that it makes me concerned that he is slowly becoming mentally ill. I mean, it would be like somebody talking about peanut butter sandwiches 90% of the day. Honestly, he constantly rants and rants, and nobody can stand being around him anymore.
I feel badly for him, but I do not know how I could possibly change his overall tone. He is too cheap and too proud to see a mental health specialist. I am also concerned for my mother, as I believe his behavior has been affecting her in a negative manner as well, both physically and psychologically.
I am a 35 year old single man with no kids, and I am his only son.
