What brand is the best in car audio?

I'm looking to buy just a head unit to replace the one that's currently in my car. I'm not looking for any car setups, just the unit. I know that pioneer is a very good brand, but im looking for other's to maybe take a look at theirs.

I also don't want simple answers such as "Pioneer are best!" etc. I want a reason why they are better because i want the money to be spent on a decent one.

The price range im looking for is anything really from $150 - $250AUD

for that price range the higher end kenwood excellon models are supurb. the kdc x692 and 792 are GREAT. their hi voltage with less distortion and background noise. not a bad word on them. alpine being a big brand has some good ones. but their overpriced to me. i have seen some pretty decent panasonic lines. but to me the kenwood excelon REALY stretches your dollar
