What book would you like to see turned into a film?

I remember reading about this too. I can't say I like the idea tho'. Pullman has created such a rich world, with many different ideas that no film could possibly do it justice. This is one I think should be left in book form... it can be appreciated so much better there.

If you haven't been to his website, take a look at http://williamnicholson.co.uk/DOCS/index.htm, just don't suggest any similarities to Lord of the Rings! I think somewhere on thee he says he's open to the idea of a film, if the right opporunity arose.

"His Dark Materials" is still "on". Tom Stoppard is doing the screenplay, and the latest rumour is that Chris Weitz ("American Pie", "About A Boy") is in talks to direct. Before you groan, he apparently submitted some sort of detailed dissertation on how he would handle various aspects of the books!

Apart from that, there seems to be little current news.

I would say any of the Mathew Reilly books (Scarecrow,Ice station,Area 51).
I think they are written with a view for filming, so it is very easy to vision the action scenes that Reilly discribes. i remember reading Scarecrow and at the end thinking a film version of this would cost about $200 million.

I'd love to see His Dark Materials as a movie(obviousley in a trilogy like LOTR). But they would need to find a very talented and charismatic young actress to play Lyra, as I feel the three kiRAB in the Harry Potter movies arn't strong enough in the acting department.

I dont know. all the new reviews are singing the prasies of Emma Watson..... she'd look the part of Lyra. As for will, I have no idea.

Any other casting ideas?

Mrs Coulter is an interesting one....

If you'd asked me a few months ago I'd have said The Iliad.

I've seen too many of my favourite books fail to come anything close to the original to believe it can be done successfully.

Ah but technically the fool was not actually in the liveship traders not as the fool anyway!
I want to see paragon on film. He would be worth watching.

A book called 'Boys Life' by Robert McCammon. Fantastic read, forever checking IMDB.com to see if they have made into film/drama.
