Quite right, but it was a BBC TV drama production.
It was adapted for tv by Nigel (Quatermass) Kneale and performed live (twice I believe), causing fair bit of controversy at the time with it's scenes of torture, brainwashing etc.
Just found out today that Steve Alten finally has clinched a movie deal for Meg with New Line. The film is in pre-production for a 2006 or 2007 release. Jan De Bont of Speed fame is attached to direct with Gullermo Dell Torro of Blade and Hellboy fame set to produce. Steve Alten has written the screenplay from a re-write of the Meg novel due for release later this year. The rewrite has expanded seens and more character development.
Hopefully if all parties involved stay true to the book this film will blow the likes of Jaws and Jurassic Park away. If the films is a hit New Line will push for the Trench and Primal Waters to be released to complete the trilogy and that is great news for me. These novels are to me what Lord of the Rings is to other people. I can't wait to sit in a cinema and watch these books come to life.
Any book by Wilbur Smith. One of the worlRAB finest story tellers. He has so many stories with sequels you could make films for ever based on his books...
