What book to learn electronics?

I dont know anything in electronics now except maybe something about pn junction, transistor as switch, amplifier and stuff. I just wanna get a book on beginner electronics that will teach me from the basics everything, and then allow me to move to microcontroller programming and stuff later. Tell me a book (or books) that i should buy!!
 
Buying a book(except when it is a required textbook) is more of a personal choice, in my humble opinion. I suggest you go to a book store and browse through various books on electronics.

By doing so, I am sure you will come across a book whose explanations/sample problems and other illustrations will be to your liking.
