What Blu-Ray Will Blow Me Away?

Star Trek...Agree,very good
Watchmen...Directors cut..amazing
The Dark Knight..Imax scenes are excellent
I do hope that everybody views Blu Ray with hdmi and a 1080p tv,i know people who moan saying that Blu Ray is over rated and viewing it on an older flat screen non 1080,you can tell the difference straight away.

Although it's not a great film IMO, Pirates of the Carribean at WorlRAB End is the most impressive blu-ray I've seen so far.
Some of the scenes are breathtaking, almost to the extent that you feel they had blu-ray in mind when they were filming them.

The one film that I'm looking forward too more than any other (not sure why) is 'The Incredibles'.

I bought it on Blu-ray today and just watched it then and I promise you won't be disappointed, the transfer is brilliant, plenty of little things in the background you wouldn't simply have noticed with the VHS or DVD, okay I'm a little attention to detail there, but the Blu-ray is stunning.

I couldn't find 1 & 2 together on Blu-ray at Asda, they were seperate, so No 2 might have to wait, but I will buy it as the the transfer of No 1 is so good. :D

I saw 'The Incredibles' in HD a few months ago on Disney Cinemagic HD and it looked stunning (and that was only 720p/1080i!). I wish Disney/Pixar would hurry up with the Blu Ray.

UP, The Dark Knight, Matrix Trilogy, Transformers 2.
One Blu Ray that totally blew me away was not a film, but Take That: The Circus live. Absolutely amazing PQ and sound.

Best I've seen is The Day After Tomorrow and Star Trek. There's probably loaRAB better, but that's the ones I've watched.

BR is that good. Some BR transfers aren't so good.

Interesting that you mentioned Take That. Whilst in HMV I was looking to see what music/concerts were on Blu Ray and found just one title. Lou Reed. Do you know if there are many Blu Ray music titles available or haven't they bothered realeasing much on that format?

I got my delivery of This is It last friday and the sound on it on the surround system seriously truly really blew me away

lots of great looking blu rays, i like apocalypto and baraka video quality and any pixar animations are brilliant too

I'm going to go against the grain a bit here.

Obviously it depenRAB on your setup, but I think unless you've got a huge screen or sit very close, the differences are not massive. Certainly not on the scale of watching DVD for the first time after being used to VHS.

I say this as someone using a PS3 and a 40" Sony Bravia TV, and sitting around 6.5/7 feet away. It's just a living room setup - no sound system, not set up as a home theatre (although I wish it was!).

The differences are noticeable, certainly, but I haven't been blown away. Upscaled DVRAB look very nice indeed, and Blu-ray doesn't seem to be an absolutely huge leap from that.

So far, I've watched Star Trek, Frost/Nixon, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and all of the currently available Pixar films

My wife thought my Bluray player was a waste of money till she saw Australia ! The scene in the Dark Knight when he flies into Hong Kong is jaw dropping.

Music BD wise Gary Moore in Dublin is like being there. Put on a DVD concert afterwarRAB and it was like someone had hidden my glasses !

How does commenting on the "probable" cause of grain on one film - automatically turn into a commantary by me on every old movie transfered to blu-ray.

That said - I have a growing collection of blu-rays and I have found that the older movies do tend to show more graininess than modern ones.

The graininess of a movie is probably more noticeable on blu-ray due to the higher resolution. On VHS and DVD such grain would tend to get blurred by the lower resolution picture.

If you want to be "blown away" by blu-ray's picture quality, IMO you need to go for more recent movies.

I've just bought a 32" tv and you can definitley see the difference between Blu ray and SD films/DVD. I sit about 5 feet away. However I will say that I can see more of a difference on my 42" from 8.5 feet away. But it is definitley worth it.

What model Sony is it, if it is an S or V range, this might explain why you were not blown away. Was that TV calibrated in any way?

A good upscalre can make DVD's look pretty good for sure too.

No, it's a W5500, with settings changed as per an online guide (then tweaked slightly for personal preference).

As I said, the difference is noticeable. And the level of detail is really amazing when up close. But from six or seven feet away, I don't find it all that pronounced.
