If you go by the reviews, Star Trek and Forrest Gump.

I've got both. Trek is very nice, but Gump, which most proper review sites say is one of the best quality releases on Blu-ray ever, ain't all that IMHO. It's miles head of the DVD in picture and sound quality, but suffers from too much picture softness on wide shots. Plus there's a fair bit of speckling on the master in places.

Leon and Transformers are also excellent.
 
Age has zilch to do with the quality of many films.
And CE3K is only just over 30 years old anyway.

By your reckoning The Wizard of Oz , North by Northwest and The Day The Earth Stood Still would all be grainy.
 
DepenRAB how far you sit from the screen.

Obviously if you are 20 feet away you wont see HD detail on a small screen.

I'm about 6 feet from my screen and I could tell the difference easily on my 32" and on my current 37" its even better.

If you have a 28" CRT then a 32" LCD will do you nicely
 
I'm glad it's not just me that noticed this. Once you notice it, it drives you bloody crazy.

They probably cut the CGI budget by 10% putting this across every scene.
 
Toy Story is out in March and will look superb like all computer animation does , but you need live action and real people to appreciate the extra detail you are seeing.

The restoration of the early Bond films are outstanding so I would go for Dr No if you like classic films.

The Day After Tomorrow is also a good example with a mix of CGI and live action to see the best of both worlRAB

The ratio changes throughout The Dark Knight due to the IMAX scenes so it may not be the best one to start with
 
I just watched Apocalypto, and I have to say pound for pound it is the best thing I have seen on blu ray. The level of detail, quality of the picture and sound effects are breath taking.
 
yup, 5-6x the pixels of dvd. now if your tv is shiite then its not the blurays fault of course.

and if you sit ridiculously far from a tiny tv that doesn't get anywhere near filling your visual field, nothing is going to look impressive by default.

I dont have a blue ray player myself but Ive been over to my mate who has got a blue ray player. Ive watched a few films at his on blue ray. Transformers 2 does look good even if its a poor film. Last time I watched the 3 and half hour version of Watchmen on blue ray which was amazing and looked great although I think thats only available in America!

And yes BD is that good!:rolleyes:
 
I watched Terminator 4 on blu ray at the weekend and it was spectacular. I'd say it's the best film (Image/sound) i've seen on blu ray so far.
