What bike is best? for around town and maybe 100 miles on sundays?

I have an old soft tail HD and am coming into a lil money. wanted to buy a new bike. also my fiance has taken to riding with me, and i have been logging lots of miles lately. i wondered what i should get. she likes the deluxe with soft bags. i figured i should just get a road king. what are some of the major differences?
Depending on what speed you are trying to achieve you could go with a 500cc bike. If you live in a small town or college campus 250cc would be quieter and better gas mileage. But personally, any bike bigger than a 750cc is bragging rights because how often are you going to be able to go 200mph down a straight away? I have a 600cc.
