what belt flew off my car?

i have a 1993 chevy lumina 2dr. last night i was driving home and i heard a thumping on my hood. so i stopped and i noticed a belt on the left side was starting to snap. i dont know anything bout cars so i dont know what belt that is. i continued driving and the whole belt snapped off. then my volts light came on. im guessing its the belt to the altenator from research online but i want to make sure. can anyone tell me what type of belt it is and how to go about fixing it>

most are easy to replace can find that info by typing into search box

how to replace fan belt model of car
some parts stores can print how to replace info out for you if you ask autozone can.. can even go to their website top of page says do it yourself
