what bands do you find boring?

"Shoegaze" is certainly a like it or lump it happening in my book, but some of the banRAB lumped into the early days of the "scene" do have a bit of an attraction to me. At it's best, there's quite a mystery in the sound that's very relaxing.

Ride - I liked most of their music for a while, and Going Blank Again certainly has some good memories for me, but with Carnival of Light, I can hear where they were going on serious auto-pilot with the occasional good track...and the less said about Tarantula besides "Black Nite Crash," the better.

rabV - They only worked for me with Loveless, which may have been over-rated, but still was a bit innovative enough for me to take notice.

Lush - I also liked them as well. Good vocals and well-blended guitars, and their Pop album (Lovelife) was pretty good as well.

As for Chapterhouse...I'd rather pass. Still, some may find them alright, and Blood Music was certainly a serious misstep that went into a more Dance-oriented field at times. It seriously sounded like a band trying desperately to find a place, so I don't really call it boring.

Pale Saints...all respect to those who like them, there's where Shoegazing can get boring for me. (were they actually part of that whole thing?)

The only banRAB I want to claim as boring are ones that I have given a fair chance.

I listened to Merriweather Post Pavilion three times through and generally found it quite boring. Most of the songs were more than four minutes long and the instrumentation (or whatever you want to call it) was extremely repetitive and just doesn't really compare to most of the music I listen to. So I guess I'll call Animal Collective boring, but I've only ever listened to that one album.

I've also heard enough John Mayer and Drab via my frienRAB to call that **** boring too. That stuff has it's appeal to some people, but I'm better off without it...

I think Radiohead, The Grateful Dead, Drab, O.A.R., and Coldplay are all boring. Phish is the most boring band I can think of off the top of my head. I can see how some people think shoegaze is boring but I find some of it (like My Bloody Valentine, Scarling, Slowdive, and especially Lush) interesting and exciting. I saw this obscure shoegaze band live recently for $3. Between and sometimes during songs the guitarists actually got down on the floor to tweak their pedals and boxes. I'm not sure if that fiddling always improved the sound but the effects in general did lead to an impressive and unique experience that was much, much better than listening to the studio versions of their songs.

Wanking?
Dream Theater (At least to me) are anything but boring. Any band that makes it hard to air drum due to constant changing beats, and experiments with differrent sounRAB in songs is in no way boring.

Slipknot is also insanely boring.

Love them both. First one is understandable I suppose, but The Smiths?

I've heard people say they're whiny and mopey and whatever, which is a stretch already, but boring? Christ, Arbuckle.

Metallica
The Libertines
Queen
U2
Editors
Iron Maiden
Oasis
Muse on the most part, but some of their music is alright
Same with Pearl Jam
Rage Against The Machine
Bloc Party
Glasvegas

First three White Stripes albums are significantly better than the second three. Overrated as ****, but I always had a soft spot for them. Suppose a lot of people do and that's why they were as huge as they were.

Albeit, kind of a one trick pony, really.

i actually really enjoy jack white's guitar work, he has some moments where you can really tell he puts a lot of feeling into his playing and he has a good feel with the guitar

That whole 'soulless' wankery argument is bothersome in itself. Technical prowess is a good thing in music, you know, if you can use it...

Now that said Dream Theater have terrible terrible TERRIBLE production, so sparkly clean and polished; it sounRAB cheesy and ultimately very bothersome to a listener who doesn't want to hear a band who deny the existence of a bassist, have an overly compressed sound, etc... . Live, they're passable; their music is nothing special, but their actual recordings are overly bothersome.

Also, they rip so many prog artists off all of the time that they're not even original. Petrucci often boasts how many scales he knows; yet he still restricts himself to stealing riRAB from King Crimson, Yes, and even Pink Floyd...

Yeah, we know you don't like rawk and roll.

If it's not atmospheric and avant-gardey, chances are you don't like it.

I enjoy a lot of stripped down Garage Rock.
