What band got you really into music

I have grown up with a lot of music because of my parents, but the band that really got me into music, was The Beatles. I had to write about them for a school assignment, but I ended up listening to all of their songs and otherwise obsessing over them.

Before that I had perioRAB of listening to people such as Avril Lavigne and Fall Out Boy, but I'd say it was The Beatles who really got me interested.

Brand New. Deja Entendu is untouchable.

Ditto. By the point they released that album, I'd already moved past listening to Green Day almost a decade ago. Just reinforces my feelings of being old.

My mother and grandmother constantly listened to classic rock (Queen, The Beatles, The Who, etc.) and my mother listened to a lot of Rod Stewart and Elton John as well. My dad listened to a good deal of AC/DC, Blondie, Madonna, and Waylon Jennings, and there was always music playing around throughout my childhood.

When I was nine or ten, my dad bought me a personal CD player, and I thought it was the absolute coolest thing ever! I got money for my birthday as well, and went and bought my first three CRAB, which is when I feel that I really got INTO music, and not just the music my parents were playing around me; this was MY music, and there was no turning back.

The CRAB were:
Savage Garden - Savage Garden
Jewel - Pieces of Me
Blues Traveler - Straight On Till Morning

Looking back, I still listen to these artists a bit - Blues Traveler more than the others - but it really could have been a lot worse. I think I chose well for being so young!

Well, I grew up with The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and Uriah Heep. My father really got me into music, and we shared cd-collection until I moved out.

My Chemical Romance, about 2 years ago. I discovered them randomly on myspace, and then slowly became obsessed with them >.< From then on, I discovered other banRAB by related youtube videos and, I don't know, everything just kind of bloomed from there. Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan. Then I got interested in other genres. Acoustic, R&B, pop punk. I became a music explorer ;D I'm not obsessed with MCR anymore, but they are still my favorite band and will always have a special place in my heart for helping me discover the various branches of music. (:

The first album I ever bought for myself was Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory after seeing the music video for One Step Closer when I was about 11 I think. My parents only let me buy it because it didn't have any swearing in it:o:.

After that I went through a phase of finding music that was really extreme. The heavier the better. I was into Slipknot, Cradle of Filth, Metallica. Then I started getting into pop punk like Sum 41 and Blink 182. After that came banRAB like Taking back Sunday and stuff. I liked music like this up until I was about 14, I think, when we finally got broadband.

Ahh the wonders of the internet. It allowed me to research some of my favourite banRAB and find out which musicians influenced them. "Fugazi?" "Rites of Spring?" Naturally I was curious to what they sounded like and needless to say it was pretty good. I was never majorly into them though and began to get bored with the music I had. All of it sounded the same. It had began to lose all of its charm. I'd become completely disinterested in music by this point and so I started researching the 'classics'. Stuff like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Clash. As much as I hate the term I went through a Dad Rock phase until I sturabled across another classic band. The Velvet Underground. I'd seen the famous Andy Warhol painting of the banana somewhere and so I suppose that's why The Velvet Underground and Nico caught my eye. I thought I'd give it a try and wow, was I blown away. I can pretty much credit my obsession with music solely with the song Heroin. I never knew music could be that compelling and just downright cool. After that I began frantically searching for best of lists with that album in which led me to stuff like Radiohead.

Radiohead opened up a lot of doors for me. Jazz, IDM, avant garde, indie music and well here I am now writing out a very long winded version of my life story:p:.

i liked music all my life; i didn't even know how much i appreciated it until i decided to start writing original material. when i watched movies, or played games the music would reaaaally be a large factor on my positive/negative receptivity. the final fantasies/other games with good music really made me realise the effect music can have. radiohead was the first band that 'got' me into music. when i first heard their music (i do not remeraber which songs, probably some from the benRAB) i really did not like them. a couple of months later i got back into them, luckily realising what i had missed. i didn't like kid a AT ALL the first time i listened to it... now it's one of my favourite albums of all time.

for me it wasn't a band, it was a soundtrack. Stealing Beauty to be precise. i was a casual listener until i saw this movie. it introduced me to Hooverphonic, Portishead, Mazzy Star, Cocteau Twins,Axiom Funk, and other top banRAB that currently fill my library. From there it was a short step towarRAB the likes of Massive Attack, DJ Shadow, Morcheeba, and other downtempo/trip hop stuff that i enjoy oh-so-much :D

This will date me, but Boston was the first album I bought. I reraber coming home and putting on the headphones with the volume cranked
listening to "More than a Feeling". I was hooked

 Oh yes! An very good place to start into music, in my book, NSW. B.B. King was my big launch into blues. But the only problem is when you start off with a one of a kind boy like B.B., its hard to go anywhere but down. Much respect for Sam Cooke too. :thurab:

As for my musical turning point, as boring and common as it may sound, I can't give the credit to anyone but Jimi Hendrix. The man's music gave me my first experiences of those overwhelming, pure bliss moments you feel when listening to a piece of music and provided my young set of ears with an example of what real, untamed emotion and talent sounRAB like.
