What bait works best for staying on the fishing hook?

I went fishing yesterday with my friend and we used huge worms. But the fish kept snatching them off the hook. Even if we put the worm lengthwise on the hook, it would get snatched. We only caught a small fish, but that was it out of the whole hour that we fished. Any ideas for kickass bait? Should we switch to smaller hooks? If so, what bait should be used on them?

HUGE worms ay' ~ do like I do with nightcrawlers ie., tear em' in half. Yes, goin' to a smaller hook sometimes remedies the problem. Usin' women's panty hose is fine for chicken liver, Fresh Salmon Roe/eggs (not the jarred type) etc., but will not help mainly because the worm will be all crimped up. What is probably happining is that say bluegills/panfish are havin' a feast on your bait, so make it hard for them ~ again tear them HUGE worms in half <);-3

Note: Gang hooks can also help out with the problem:

Added: Best to go with the lighter lines 2-4 lb., test

====you can make any bait stay on the hook by ====== using a ladies leg hose, cut a small chunk put it over the hook & bait stick a tooth pick through the eye of the hook, break off the excess and go get -em- can even use the same bait over and over --good fishing and tight lines captain !!
