I'm trying to remember, I know I've read a few of his but do not have a clue what the story lines were. I know that in reading your question my mind jumped from RL Stine to Stephen King, did he do kind of supernatural thrillers? Did he write for Goosebumps? If that is the case then King is a natural progression.
Edit: Just googled him and he is a actually described as the Stephen King for children so I would highly recommend that you start on Stephen King. I love his writing, it takes a little while to get in to his style, but once you do you can easily sit and read a dozen of them, one after the other. Have just finished Firestarter, will get IT as haven't read it in a couple of years, then when I've finished that I'll hunt Carrie out, maybe follow it with Christine. Some other favourites are Misery, The Stand, Liseys Story, Desperation and of course The Shining.
