I would like to hear from fellow anthropologists and anthro students who have read Roy Wagner's "The Invention of Culture". Specifically, I would like to know whether anybody in social or cultural anthropology is still seriously reconsidering the overall value of the 'culture concept', and why or why not. Lately, I have noted that most of the anthro students I teach or come into contact with appear to have uncritically accepted Boasian notions and their descendants as if nobody has ever raised a serious set of counter-arguments. I am not interested in entering into a debate on the value of culture as a concept in anthropology (especially with people who haven't followed Wagner's work), but would love to find out what others think about Wagner's ideas.
