When ever any of my writer friends come to me with help with a novel taking place in the 1800s (at best it's "should my characters use thou, thy ect." and at worse they try to put in knights, ladies, lords, peasants, castles, battering rams ect.
-Whenever people make the american colonists speak with british accents in movies
-Native Americans portrayed as bad guys
-The south portrayed as evil in Civil War media and in schools.
-Also, the classic assumption that the War of 1812 was fought because England wanted the USA back.
