We all know them. Take 3 or 4 frames and copy+paste them for several frames and you have a longer animated sequence for only a fraction of a cost. They're incredibly common for wakling and running animations, but sometimes the animators can be quite creative and create hilarious moments out of looped animations.
Some of my favorites include:
In the Tom & Jerry cartoon "A Mouse in the House", there's a scene where both Tom and Butch (the black cat) are fighting. Jerry hits a gong so they can stop and take a time out. Jerry then gives the exact same fight tips to both of them, and when the fight resumes, Tom and Butch start punching each other in a hilarious looped fashion. The funniest part is when they realize they've been tricked.
In the Dexter's Lab episode "Dee Dee and The Man", the animation of Dexter screwing a nut is taken to extremes when it is combined with several other sequences to make one huge scene (almost two minutes). In it, Dexter gets more and more depressed as the scene slows down as it progresses. The best part is that, while nearly everything moves, Dexter's head stays perfectly still all through the scene.
And of course, there's this:
So what are your favorites?
