What are these red blue and white flashing stars i see?

i was riding with my friend and noticed a really bright star but it was flashing 3 colors white red and blue. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me but my friend could see it too. Then i thought it could be a plane or sattilite of some kind but it wasnt moving at first. We got back to my appartment and watched it. We soon got distracted and looked away and just moments later looked back but it was gone. We looked around and seen that it was in a different part of the sky. We looked around some more and noticed that there were 6 more stars that flashed blue red and white all around us not moving. The next night we went star gazing just to see if they were there still and we couldnt find not even one star that even looked close to what we seen the night before. What could these have been can anyone tell me?
