What are the smudges on my fish tank?

I noticed the other day alot of smudges on my fish tank, it literally looked like someone had touched on the glass all over it, like finger smudges. So I get some glass cleaner and try to wipe it off, then I realize it is on the inside of the aquarium instead. What could cause this?
its a 55 gallon tank, i have an algae eater, 7 tiger barbs and 4 glo fish
 
What fish do you have in the tank? Sounds like snails or algae eater type fishes.

Most likely the algae eater cleaning up and down the sides of your tank. Just get some kind of algae scraper for the inside of your tank. They have some that are magnetic. If you have an acrylic tank, be sure to get the correct one to prevent scratches.
