I thought I posted this question earlier, but it didn't look like it went through. I have a question about the rules and guidelines for dancers having amateur status. I never danced growing up, but after a few group lessons, I was asked if I wanted to be an instructor. Not knowing any better, I accepted. I taught for a little over a year, however I was never trained or certified in any area or level of dance. I was just given a pile of video tapes to learn and then taught the patterns. I never taught more than 8 or 9 lessons a week. Now, it has been about a year since I stopped teaching. I am interested in actually taking private lessons and possibly competing sometime in the future. Although I never viewed myself as a professional or believed in any way that I had the right to even call myself a professional, it looks like the rule books say that I am, or was at one time. What I want to know is... How can I go back to amateur status after being a teacher for that short time? Can I even go back to amateur status? I hope someone can help me! Thanks
