A couple of other ways to try to get cell providers to terminate your contract without paying ETF:
1. Move out of their area (Or find a relative you can "move in with", on paper anyway) A lot of cell providers will let you out of the contract if you move to an area they don't service.
2. Start using a LOT of roaming. Most providers will terminate your contract if over 50% of your calls are made using roaming. They have to pay roaming fees to the other providers when you are roaming, so it's in their best interest to terminate your contract. This can take a couple of months, though, and only works, of course, if you have free roaming in your plan, and can find a spot close enough to roam on.
3. Of course, your material changes loophole you are looking to find.
4. Find someone who will "take over" your existing contract. They will have to pass the cell provider's credit check, of course, but if you have a nice enough phone, you might be able to find someone who wants a free phone and a contract that is less than if they went and started a completely new contract.
