what are the most colorful fresh water fish?

my african ciclid ate all the other fish in the tank so he was our only fish. he just died and now we want friendlier non-cannibal fish for my kids to watch. which ones are the most colorful?
fish that grow to be more than a couple inches?
 
cichlids are aggressive. You should probably look into other cichlids or other aggressive type fish.

platies
guppies

all are good community fish :)

they go good with any peaceful tank, exept with other gouramis
o and discus are also very cool looking. but be careful about what fish you put with them.
 
If you want something good for the kids, then a community tank is perfect. Mollies, Platys, Guppies, some colourful tetra's (neon, scissortail, head and tail lights) and maybe some goby's would fill a ciclid tank with colour.
They are relatively friendly, and guppies, mollies and platys are all live-bearers, meaning that they give birth to live young, giving the kids something to keep track of and watch as they grow.
They are also quite cheap to buy and keep, so if there are any casualties, you haven't lost as much as if you bought yourself an expensive fish like a black knife ghost or Discus or something.
