What are the implications of NOT repairing the ABS on my 1999 Ford Windstar?

The ABS light just started coming on and the first time, they redid the vacuum on it and the light went off. Day later, it came back. Then two days later it went off again. Took it in today and they said the repair will be about $800 - $1000 for the part only. I assume this is for the ABS module and reprogramming it (am still waiting to hear). I don't have the money for this right now and am wondering how this will impact the overall safety of the vehicle. My other car doesn't have ABS so I'm not sure.
