Punic Wars? I think it established Rome's supremacy around the Mediterranean sea. By the end of the war, they have destroyed their nemesis, Carthage, occupied territories previously held by Carthage like Iberia, and Rome is also reigning in the sea. They now control major ports which can really help their economy and their naval power ensures their sea power.
