I have a trust 2.1 system with r + l and a sub. but the sound crackles every now and again and is very irrating. Very dissapointing as they were bought new not long ago but I never bothered to return them. I want to replace them with a better set.

we play music on the pc so they have to be powerful enough to handle dance. gaming etc I don't want truck loads of little speakers and amps and things. nothing huge and nothing too expensive. as my desk is already cluttered!

what do you recommend?

I agree with the first answerer- Harmon/Kardon speakers are good for PC's. If you are doing and multimedia I recommend either a 5.1 setup or a 7.1 setup, and make sure your sound card supports all those channels. I have a Sony home theater 7.1 on mine since I do a ton of movie making/watching. The best way to tell if you have a good sound system is to play a THX certified DVD at full volume and if the THX sound makes your jaw drop with amazement then you have a good system.

personal preferance. i used to use the dell stock speakers but then my dad gave me his old bose mediamate (lucky me) speakers. there really nice. but for a legit speaker system, here you go:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121120

for a more lower end (and price)

For somewhere around 20$

I've found that "Harmon and Kardon" are recommended by a lot of people. You can find different setups in 2.1, 5.1 or even 7.1 with that brand.
