I am 18 enlisted leaving March 2010. I have a girlfriend and have heard somethings that make me wonder about the marines married life?
These are not reasons I would get married just want to know.
1.) Do your checks double? Whats the pay difference?
2.) I want to travel. Would my wife be able to leave with me?
3.) If not deployed can you live off base and get money to rent a house?

I dont know just basic information like that I would really appreciate it.
Thank you!

1. & 3. No your checks do not double, you get no pay increase at all. What you will get is BAH (basic allowance for housing). BAH all depends on where you live at. It is different depending on the cost of housing for the area of the country you are in/will be stationed at. Now if you get marries you will recieve more BAH than what a single person of the same rank would. You will also recieve BAH wether you r deployed or not if u r married. Now most single people cant start recieving BAH until they r E-4 or higher.

2. I dont really know but if she is able to it would be at your cost.

benefit: you have someone to go home to.
Your wife can travel with or without you. You to can travel together... (vacations)

Yes, you can live off base, they do give you BAH to help pay for your rent. If your rent is more than they give you, you pay the difference
