My aunt has mercury and she wants to know ways you can get rid of it and how. Thanks!

mercury is a hazardous material and should be disposed of with a hazardous material disposal site. Check your local city or county to find where you can dispose of hazardous waste. Mercury vapor is also poisonous so keep it enclosed in some manner and do what I suggested.

If it is spilled, then one thing she must not do is use a vacuum, mop, or broom. Heat from the vacuum’s motor will increase the amount of mercury vapor in the air. Mops and brooms will spread the mercury, making proper cleanup more difficult and costly. The vacuum cleaner, mop or broom will become contaminated and require disposal as hazardous waste.

She needs to call a professional to clean it up. Its vapors are highly toxic and can cause sickness or death if too much is inhaled. The best thing she can do is a call a professional and have them deal with it.
