What are some reasons why some people don't look good in photos...?

but look good in real life?

My friend is drop dead gorgeous in real life. Walking down the street people hit on her and stop and stare. But in photos, she looks kind of washed out, and dingy-like.

Why is this? Is it the lighting?

Not photogenic. I am the same way. I look 10x better in real life but i think it has to do with lighting the flash on the camera or something. I always look diff then when i look in the mirror. It definately has to do with the flash and lighting..

Could be the lighting, angle, positioning...I have this problem sometimes where I look really heavy in pictures, but I'm not in person; its really weird.

wow. You know what- put me on that list. I am not very photogenic. up until recently I owned barely any pictures. it takes a lot of photos to come to even one that looks like how I really look. Professional pics usually can capture me with most accuracy- but a snap, or digital- forget about it.

add: dang SI- wanna take my pic? you know a lot about that. I'm taking notes.

Its all about what on the inside. Models will tell you they have to go to a photo shoot in the right mindset for that shoot. To take a good picture, you really have to believe in yourself. Maybe your friend doesnt think she is as pretty as other people tell her she is. I am told alot that i am pretty...but when i look in the mirror...i dont see that like other people do. And btw, none of my pictures are that amazing either. Also, this could be angles of the pictures too. Try taking one of her with the camera held up in the air looking down on you, but not too high so its still facing you too.

When people take pictures of me, like the school photos or class pictures (which was taken 2 days ago) I feel very awkward and cant smile naturally, my face becomes distorted because I feel awkward and my smile is not natural whereas in real life my smile will always be natural.

It also happened in art when we had to do self portraits, I was mortified at my picture xD then it went from bad to wrose because he then asked us to do a pose as well and it was infront of everyone so i mean yeah everything was extremely awkward LOL

well, it makes your face look flat, and it can catch you at a moment when you have a really awkward look on your face.. i sure hope i dont look like what i do in some pictures.. lol
:) xx

Its not the lighting its the fact that the original is always better than the unoriginal thing.

It's ALL about the lighting and the shape of the mirror.

When the light source is behind or to the side of the person, they tend to look less attractive. Because the light can not high lite your facial features as if it was in front of you.

When taking a picture make sure the light source is in front of you. (The light source does NOT include flash on a camera but a light bulb or the sun, any main source of light).

Also, when you use a wide shaped mirror than your face tends to look wider, if you buy a thin shaped mirror than your face tends to look thinner. Mirrors proportion your face differently depending on shape.

Also, it could depend on the type of lighting. Most people prefer natural lighting as opposed to fluorescent because it can distort skin tone and make it look less "natural".
