What are some really good books?

Can anyone recommend a really good book?
I like basically anything as long as its interesting, i also like pretty thick books. If it helps, some of my favorite books are gone by michael grant,sarah dessen books, the host by stephanie meyer. it doesn't really matter what kind im always open to reading new books. Thanks (:
 
Here are some of my favorites. Please read and tell me what you think. Oh and most are the first book in a series, so lots to read here and all worth reading.

"Alanna: The First Adventure" by Tamora Pierce

"Uglies" by Scott Westerfeld

"The Golden Compass" by Pullman

"The Host" by Meyer

"The Hunger Games" by Collins

"Goddess of the Night" by Lynne Ewing

"The Amulet of Samarkand" by Stroud
 
A Fine Balance is a really good book. You can also look into reading some classics; there are allot of them in stores now for school and they are inexpensive too.
 
The Sight and Fell (sequel) by David Clement-Davies. His books aren't super long. 700 pages at the most.
