I can't find many articles or other sources that go in depth about this. All the sources I have found pretty much just state the obvious by briefly covering this subject. "Something should be done to provide school children with healthier choices, federal lunch programs and what they provide, students need to be encouraged to make the right choices, more physical activity" and so on. I would like sources that go more in depth with these issues and I also want to find out if healthier lunches (freshly prepared, steamed/baked, non-packaged, non-greasy food) are cheaper or at least the same price as the nasty food that is provided. I have a few articles of use but would like more if anyone knows of any. Thanks.
I'm not saying school lunches are completely to blame but I do feel they are part of the problem. Also notice I mentioned that the articles advocate more physical activity (duh). I believe there needs to be more emphasis on parent involvement and physical activity. But the lunches are nasty and some kids have no choice but to eat them because that is all they get in a day. The vegetables are over cooked with little to no nutrients left and the fruit/salad is full of chemicals. In high school, our lunch options were disgusting and I couldn't exactly afford to bring a lunch so sometimes it's not a choice. I want facts, not opinions but then again, I guess I shouldn't be asking this on yahoo answers.
