What are some good points to make in a debate?

The topic is on banning violent video games and I am for banning violent video games. This is for a project that our class is doing. It is a 3 on 3 debate but I am the head of the 'for' side.

Anyone know some good killer moves to make in this argument along with good counterattacks/counterpoints to make in case they make a really strong statement? For example if they say "violent video games are used for a person to take out their anger and rage"

The opposition have a good reputation for making amazing arguments and points so I need really good points and tips for this. Of course I have my own notes but I don't think they're strong enough to win this debate.

Thanks, help really appreciated.

Take a look at psychology sites and look for items about how people create "LEARNED BEHAVIORS". It basically says that if you see someone do act x, you will repeat the act. So if you see someone shoot a cop you will first think its ok to do and then you may repeat the behavior and shoot a cop on the street.

Playing a violent game gets you used to violence and then when you do see it you aren't offended by it. After playing violent game for 30 hours you walk down the street and see an old lady getting robbed or beaten and you just shrug your shoulders and walk on by.

A good debate technique is to actually spend a bit of time thinking of what the other team's plan is. Firgure out where they are gonna go. You then can try to put something together to counter it. Usually debate just promotes my side but if you can present a direct counter to the other team's opinion it is a good jab.

Violent video games almost always put women in a minor role as hookers, girlfriends or some other submissive role. Grand theft auto even has a mission to be a pimp and sell sex which is demeaning to women. The players learn beyond violence that women are nothing but sex things.

Good luck

Violent video games influence children to resolve their
problems through violence. They learn this behavior from
these games and know no other way to resolve the problems. Then bring in data from school violence.
Most of the students who play these games have emotional
issues to begin with and these games enable the kids to
become anti-social which leads to more unhealthy
behavior. Research this and have the data to support
your position. Hope this helps.
