What are some good mystery book authors that are living in the UK?

I am doing a book report for school and the teacher has asked specifically for a book writing by a British author living in the UK.
The type of genre of books that I'd like to read are mystery and horror. If you know any other good authors that don't write books of that genre, I will still appreciate your opinion. Thank you(:
