What Are Some Fishing Basics?

Im going fishing saturday and I dont want to look like a complete idiot. What are basics of fresh water fishing? Like what is the basics in simplest form?
 
I'm not sure anyone can correctly answer this question as to help you without more information. Where are you going fishing? What are you wanting to catch? What kind of tackle do you have or will you purchase. And most of all, don't feel like an idiot, even us folks that have been fishing for years have our idiot moments.
 
a good spinning rod with a WOODEN bobber (the plastic ones will break it it hits a rock) about 1 foot over the hook, #6 baitholder hook, nightcrawlers will work but if you can get bloodworms they will work much better but expensive at 1 dollar a piece
