I'm aiming to do some section hiking on Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail when the weather improves, and while there are camping options along the trail at state and county parks, private campsites, etc, is it okay to just pitch a tent along side the trail?
Can anyone familiar with the trail offer some guidance? I seem to remember when I did a canoe trip down the Wisconsin River it was okay to camp on the sand bars, so I wasn't sure if there's some other general rule of thumb about camping on public land...
