i don't get what moles are. So i am having trouble with my chem homework. Plz help! (=

Can some one work out this for me:

23.4 grams NaCI convert grams to moles.

n=m/M
n-mols
m-mass grams
M-molar mass-gmol-1
M(NaCl)=M(Na)+M(Cl)=35.5+23.1=58.6gmol-1
n(NaCl)=23.4g/58.6gmol-1=0.40mol

The atomic weight of sodium is 23
The atomic weight of chlorine is 35.5

The molecular weight of sodium chloride is therefore 58.5

A mole is the molecular weight in grammes
It is sometimes called the gram molecular weight.

It is important because a Mole of any chemical always contains the same (huge) number of molecules.

1 Mole NaCl is 58.5

so 23.4 gram NaCl = 23.4 / 58.5 = 0.4 Mole
