Here's the thing about astronomy - there's very little you can do in the field without a PhD in astronomy, and if you're going to get a PhD in astronomy, an astronomy major really isn't the best preparation for it. The best preparation would be a major in physics along with classes or a double major in astronomy, math, and computer science. And since you can major in physics pretty much anywhere, any college can prepare you to get into a good grad program in astronomy. But a few specific west coast schools to look into would be CalTech, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, U Washington, and Reed College.
