I'm helping my friend find a mountain bike, and he has set his budget around $400. He tried looking for a used bike in that range, but couldn't find any at our 3 local bike stores. Also, I figured at this price range, disc brakes wouldn't be a necessary component because they won't be all that great of quality. Our local bike stores sell Specialized, Kona, Trek, Gary Fisher, Giant, GT, and Raleigh, so we will probably only choose from those. I, myself, ride specialized but I am not sure which of these brands will have the best quality bike in his range, any help is appreciated.
