i'm a vegetarian and i do not eat anything that is or made of any animal products (now that i think about it, i'm probably considered a vegan). i love eating french fries, but i no longer eat them from fast food restaurants and most restaurants like that due to the fact that i heard that they are fried in animal fats. can anyone help me find the truth to this - are french fries cooked in animal fat? if so, do all restaurants cook them in animal fat? if not, what are they cooked in? any proof would be helpful too! thank you!

Most places use vegetable oil, because it has less chance of allergic reactions (like peanut oil can produce). The best thing you can do, as far as fast food chains, is to contact the company's website and see what is used, or call ahead and ask.

Since cooking in Animal fats raised many health concerns and trans fats issues. Almost all restaurants and fast food places exclusively use vegetable or soybean oil to deep fry there foods.

They are always deep-fried in oil, with the excption of some just being "fried''.

The oil is probably vegetable oil or fatter oils, but no, not animal fats.

Most fast food restaurants cook their fries in animal fat to give them flavor. Several years ago McDonald's claimed they had switched to vegetable oil and were able to replicate the same taste. They later confessed to lying. They had been using animal fat the whole time. In recent years they have made the same claim, that they switched to vegetable oil and all signs may point to that, but who knows what they might confess in the future!
