What are famous african scientists?

I'm doing a project for university to try and find great scientists from every civilization on earth, but i cannot find anything about sub-saharan "black" africa? The chinese invented a lot like paper and maths, the arabs had the 1st great civilizations and invented algebra etc, but what of sub-saharan africa? Pelase help
