What anime series are you looking forward to this Spring?

Oh right! I need 00 DVD's too....(man, why does my wallet switch between FUNi and Bandai so much?)

Sengoku Basara: Hmm, the action seems nice which always means great things. Though, like RC, I remeraber that these are the same guys that made that dissapointing DMC anime. Maybe I'll give it a check if I need an action thrill

Queen's Blade:.....Just...just why? (This comes on at WHAT TIME?)

Asura Cryin': This looks like To Aru Majutsu no Index except with mecha and even more supernatural stuff. Seems like something I'd spam watch at a later time.

Basquatch: HOW COULD ANYONE NOT WANT TO SEE AT LEAST ONE EPISODE OF THIS? I'm very surprised at the apparently ethnically diverse cast too. You know, in the old days of CN, this seems like something that would run next to IGPX.

Pandora Hearts: Yeah, I read the manga for this once. It didn't grab me but if I hear some people saying its better than the manga I'll give it a whirl.

K-ON: Slice-of-life? With music too!? Definite check out (Will they be dancing with pom-poms too?)

Phantom: Meh....

Hayate II: I thought I'd be more excited for this but this seems like one of those sequels they just pander for a year and then its over with nothing really changed. Though, I did watch Hayate no Gotoku, the first one the whole way through and I loves me some Rie Kugimiya so sure why not?

Arad Senki: Anything on CR is a definite must-see. I bet GONZO realized how much the fans liked the first episode of Druaga and they decided to make a whole series with it!

Gokujou: Not my thing

Shin Mazinger Z: DEFINITELY my thing!

Crimson 5: Two episodes and that's it. Doesn't look like my style either.

Valkyria....Don't even need to finish it, a definite yes! If someone out there is smart, they'll liscense this and make a deal with the game.

Cross Game: Meh...haven't really started the manga.

FMA II: Do I even need to say anything?

Before Green Gables: Not my thing

Hanasakeru Seishounen: When the faces are too bishounen for me to look at, that's when I know I'm not watching something (Exception being The Wallflower)

Guin Saga: Looks pretty epic. I wouldn't have looked at the promo if I hadn't read GW's fangasm over it Looking forward to it very much.

Shangri-La: Once again, anything on CR is a must. It looks very pretty too.

Tayutama: This looks like the rejected version of Spice and Wolf. Pass.

Natsu no Arashi: Mysteries are always a good thing but the animation is slightly turning me off.

Tears to Tiara: So like I said, yeah. Plus, this is made by the guys who made Utawarerumono, which is one of my favorite anime series so I will be checking this out.

Saki: Once again, CR, definite must.

07-Ghost: I heard something about this having yaoi elements in this? Not interested anyway.

Souten Kouro: Nah, don't think so. Looks really cool but historical things aren't exactly my style so I'll just give it a pass.

Eden of the East: Now, this is the kind of stuff that Japan neeRAB to be putting out more of. Anything that has me guessing from the promo alone is something that neeRAB to be liscened. Plus, I believe that there is only 11 days to solve the mystery in this show and there are only 11 episodes! How cool is that? Production I.G. (as usual) seems to have done it again. The songs sounded sick too!

Hatsukoi Limited: Not for me but maybe one episode or two. Probably not though.
 
To go along with that, there are some rather impressive names behind Basquash. It was created by Shoji Kawamori and Thomas Romain with the animation being done by Satelight. I really don't think anyone should write this show off just for being about giant mechs that play basketball.
 
Here's what I'm interested in for spring 2009:

Baccano!: I'm going to drop money on it at some point. When, I don't know. But I will. The show's too good.

D.Gray-Man: I blame the awesome OPs for everything.

Gundam 00: Already saw it on Sci-fi but I think it's worth owning.

Naruto Shippudden: Only if it never winRAB up on a watchable environment dubbed.

NANA: A bunch of fandub clips run by the amateur VA Mippa got my attention, and I might check out the official version.

From Japan:

Shangri-La: There is no possible way that can suck. This is supposed to be the ultimate anime of the year, and there's a sense of desperation surrounding this production for GONZO. ReminRAB me of the stories I've read of Squaresoft and the first Final Fantasy game, personally. Will a similar kind of magic strike again?

Shin Mazinger Z: I'm not into "retro giant robot shows" but I might check this out, just because everybody else at TZ is excited over it.

FMA II: Hell yeah.

Eden Of The East: Yeah, yeah, this one caught my attention. Looks quite original and exciting and different.

Guin Saga: Damn you, GWOtaku. You've gotten me excited over something else new when I already have enough anime on my plate. Damn you!

Basquash!: Giant robots playing basketball. Somehow, I want. I don't know why, but I want it.

Rest of them: Pass. But one special mention must go to Queen's Blade . . .

IT MUST BE KILLED WITH FIRE.

But overall, the anime for spring 2009 far surpasses the quality of the shows that came out in spring 2008.
 
Most likely FMA: Brotherhood and Dragon Ball Kai. Hell Dragon Ball Kai got me pumped with it airing right next to One Piece, that I got this new avatar.

Personally, Dragonball Kai seem a little pointless to me, but I'll give it a shot. (DON'T HATE PPL)

Well, like of course. Nothing does a corabination of fanservice and plot-defining horror like Elfen Lied. (Well, maybe Higurashi)
 
Queen's Blade sounRAB like if you're not interested in heavy amounts of fanservice, don't bother, because that's all it has going for it.

Still, it's not like the spring season, or any other TV season, is overrun by this type of show (despite what "all anime sucks nowadays" people would have you believe), so I don't see why it's a big problem. Just avoid it if it's not your cup of tea, problem solved.
 
For me, though, the problem isn't being able to avoid it or not, it's just that this is the type of show that Japan neeRAB to stop putting out because this kind of stuff won't do the anime industry any more favors. Then again, it's not like my opinion is the only one or anything.
 
Look at it this way. If the twenty-plus other series coming out this season cannot outdo one plotless hormonally-driven show, I don't think that one show is where the problem lies.
 
The thing you're trying to stop is money. Otakus, for some odd reason, have lots of money and doing these types of shows lead to easy merch. Especially during these times, it's far safer to adapt a relatively popular item (K-On) and go from there. There's also the barrier called Culture. Most Americans I know that watch this stuff aren't interested, but that's because they don't go to Japanese High schools, or live under their extremely strict and conserved society.

I'm with you Speedy, it's not really an issue. Honestly, most of the shows promise to be decent, and Queen's Blade is definitely the exception whereas you had more hardcore-otaku-catering shows in other seasons. I hate what it represents, but it's definitely not a sign of doom.
 
Things I'm looking forward to:

-Shin Mazinger: I'm a SRW fan and a fresh take on Mazinger Z falls within my sphere of interest. Having Imagawa on board as director should prove to be very interesting as well.

-Guin Saga: The premise sounRAB intriguing, the music is nice and there's certainly potential in it, going by the trailer.

-Cross Game: I liked Touch, that's really all I can say.

-Tears to Tiara: I enjoyed Utawarerumono and this looks similar enough. Not great, but good for a regular watch.

-Fullmetal Alchemist (II): I'll keep up with it. Other than that...time will tell.

-Valkyria Chronicles: SounRAB interesting enough, although I've never played the game this is based on.

-Eden of the East: I haven't really tried to find out much about this so far, but the buzz seems to be positive so I hope this turns out to be promising.

-Anything else: I'll wait for opinions and reactions.

Things I was looking forward to:

-Phantom: Being a fan of the original game (which people should definitely check out if they can get past the interface), the first episode proves once again that it was a bad idea to let Bee Train handle this. It's not horrible but they are definitely not making the best use of its potential, from what I can tell, and the syrabolism is too blatant. The OP is quite fine, if visually strange, but the ED is Ali project at their worst. I may continue to watch, just for the sake of curiosity, but with relatively little enthusiasm unless this adaptation takes a serious turn for the better. As it is...expect another variant of Noir (the game came first, mind you), although perhaps one of the better ones depending on how later events are portrayed. Some of you might like it more than I did, maybe?
 
Wow they actually made an anime for Queens Blade ...and a new FMA!!!

Many of interesting series here, considering I've been out of the loop a bit for a couple of seasons I have a bit of catch up to do.
 
Or you could always skip the ED once that became evident, like I did.

I was never a big fan of their work in Code Geass either, but at least that was kinder to the ear than this (or their Linebarrels OP, for that matter). Don't ask me to explain how.

Going back to Phantom, the rest of the soundtrack is nice, but then again that's the usual for Bee Train too. I'm more fond of the BGM used in the game though.
 
Naw, I was just kidding. I can't judge a show based on just a song alone.


I guess I see you and everybody else's point. Though, I would love to know where these otaku's are getting all this money from because I so want in.

By the way, did I mention that this is awesome?
