I recently posted my resume on monster, and I received an email from Waddell & Reed Inc. offering me an opportunity to interview for a position as a financial advisor. I've read up on the position, but I still don't quite understand what the salary is like. Is it a good an promising job? All I have is an AS degree in Business, and it says they look for bachelors degree. Also is this a job that I will have to put more than 40 hours a week in to, because I was thinking about going back to school and getting my bachelors.

it is the equivalent of commission sales. if W&R didn't tell you that up front -- run.

and it will be more than 40 hours a week.

after you get your sales pitch down, you'll start by making phone calls to people you don't know. 40 or 50 of them a day. That's to find one who says he or she will meet with you to listen to your pitch.

1/3rd of these will cancel.

you'll also pitch your firm and service to 4 people a week. in person, up front, and usually one on one. one on two if the spouse comes also.

for all of that, maybe you'll get one client. maybe.

five years down the road if you keep at it, you'll have 150 clients. That's 250 who signed up and 100 who left you.
