What am I allowed to put in my jar with my Japanese/Siamese Fighting Fish?

Obviously not another fighting fish... what about shells etc? Clay skulls I made a paint your own pottery place etc?
What about plants? The guy at the fish store said I would have to pay 100$ for a lamp to keep any plants alive in my bowl... Are there any cheaper alternatives?
 
Don 't add anything you find in your house!!! You can add some gravel that you can get in a bag for under 5 dollars at petco. As well as DO NOT ad the clay skulls. They can release diffent minerals and cotain toxic paint that will harm your beta. Plastic plants look the same as real, and are much much cheaper, plus the betta won't know the difference! Small glass figurenes are okay, but shells might have harmfull debree left in them!
 
nothing as no betta should be kept in a bowl......it need a proper tank at 5 gallons.....with a filter and a heater as this is a tropical fish.....house the fish properly
