To atheist, what age are you going to discuss religion with your children? I personally won't discuss religion with my child till he's 15 or maybe a year or two before, I'm an atheist in america but i want him to learn about all religions not just christianity. He can be religious but i think its wrong to indoctrinate him i want him to understand whats going on.

I kind of think it would be important to start educating the child early about there are many different beliefs about god and religion, and it is up to us to search out to find out if god and religion is something we want or don't want to believe, then they can go out and listen to religious teachers with open minds not to the idea that there certainly is a god. I think it would be best if you had very often discussions with your child about what he has seen and heard about religion.. You don[t have to give him your belief of there not being a god. In fact it may be just as well as to say you haven't made up your mind yet, that way you don't influence the child to be just as you are with your beliefs. If you educate your children by only being an non emotional educator and only give them evidence for and against god and religion (Which means if you are atheists best be on your toes about why people either do or don't believe in god.)

What about teaching him about spirituality? i.e. karma, astrology, zen buddhism, or something and see if it resonates with him. Even athiests usually believe in some kind of higher power, whether it's called Life, Karma, the Universe, Lady Luck, etc. If I had learned about karma and spirituality as a kid I would have made WAY fewer mistakes as a teen.

As soon as they begin to talk I will start preaching about Jesus and God and make sure their souls are right with the Lord.

My children have always attended church on Sunday with us.
So, they grew up being educated about God, how we should
act and treat others, why it is important, and how it all will end.
They have never given us any trouble. They are now in good
marriages and take their children to church every Sunday. We
are Blessed. We are happy with our own families and happy being with the Christians in our church family.
God is Good.

I started talking to my children about ALL religions as soon as they started questioning me about them and about why everybody around them felt the need to go to church and our family didn't.

They alone must make up their own minds about their religious beliefs or lack of beliefs. This is what I tell them:

"Read a lot. Think a lot. Become an educated person. Learn about all religions, not just Christianity, and read history in order to find out why religions have such a hold over so many people."

When I have a child, I will wait until he's old enough to understand and comprehend religion, maybe 12 or 13. I will tell him about all the religions, including Christianity and atheism, and hopefully he/she will choose wisely.

i'm catholic, so i guess i'll start at baptism. but i'll teach my children about acceptance of other people's religions, cultures and lifestyles at the same time.

My daughter goes to catholic school (The public schools in my city are dangerous and teach only by accident.)
I never told her I was atheist.
She became an atheist on her own...well the school REALLY helped

My son started his religious education at birth. I started deprogramming him at age 10. He's 15 now, very well educated and an Atheist .
