What about this to try to compromise with both sides in the abortion debate?

Basic problem is the Pro-choice thinks it is a bunch of cells and Pro-life thinks it is an individual person

I'm sort of in the middle.

I think it starts as a bunch of cells and becomes a person before birth (evidence from brain wave activity etc. while en utero)

The Central Nervous System is responsible for everything that happens in you (health beat, thoughts etc.)

I think abortion is just fine before the CNS is formed (At 40 days, brain waves are recordable).

I propose that abortion (for any reason) be just fine within the first 40 days (That means you have between ~12 and 24 days after you miss your period to have an abortion)

After that it is alive, and abortion is only okay for medical reasons for mom or baby, or in the event the fetus is found to have medical/developmental problems that will cause death or severe lifelong problems.

If you don't want the baby you can give it up for adoption, and you don't have to worry about "ruining your life" by having it.

Honestly, I think in the event that you are raped, or you know you are too young, it gives you ample time to get a safe legal abortion. (and don't forget there is still Ru486 if you don't want to wait and see if you got pregnant)

What do people think about this idea?

Good/Bad are you pro-choice/pro-life?

Do you realize how many of our rules and laws come from the relgious moral rules? If you want to get rid of all religious influences we need to eliminate a LOT of our laws. Murder, assault, theft, etc. all have their origins in the bible, the difference is they enjoy wide acceptance because those rules are so old. Aborortion is a very young topic.
