is it me or new rock artists ( such as avril, maroon 5, link, and so on :bringit: ) don't have any ideea bout the real sound of rock? and i'm talkin' bout those values that gave birth to "ROCK"( as a word, a way of life and thinking): starting with led zep and deep purple, up to metallica, iron m, and the unique nirvana?
ps: don't u jump down my throat if u like lavigne! :nono:
 
I don't like to believe any specific music genre has "values" that are associated with it, hopefully. Besides, you seem to be comparing different genres to begin with. No one thinks of Avril and Maroon 5 in the same sense as Zeppelin or Nirvana.
 
Although I hate Avril, you're right, 12 year old girls have to like something, and it's better Avril than some pepsi commerial s.lut. And a 12 year old who has any sence of music will definatly figure it out. However when I was young my favorite band was the Foo Fighters and hasn't changed... so who knows.

Music is a reflection of the era and vibe in which it were created - 70s was the era of freedom, sex and recreational drugs - just like Zeppelin and Sabbith. 2000s, the area of corperate thurst, depression and angry masterbation -just like Good charlotte! :D

How naive are you?

MTV is a commercial station run by sponsers , it`s not their job to find new music. It`s their job to show what sells & what`s popular , which most of the time is pre packaged corporate crap.
You want good music , get off your arse & find it yourself.
 
Don't worry wolfhunt, nobody with a sence of music would ever place Avril Lavinge and Maroon 5 in the genre of Rock. Avril may think she's rock and may have 13 year old girls fooled, but really who gives a crap if thats what 13 years olRAB think.

As for Maroon 5, they don't even take a rock direction. They would be pop/blues or whatever, but just because theres a guitar and drumkit doesn't mean it's rock. So to conclude, lol, those artists arn't worth mentioning in this thread.
 
Why are you comparing "good" (even though I don't like any of them) classic rock/metal banRAB to bad current ones? Can't I compare Sonic Youth to Journey and make the same point in reverse?
 
Laughs... Avril swears she's "so punk" ha! I wish could spend one day in my life, just to see it kick her a$s! poor durab girl, too bad she's never had to go up against real rock chicks like Sherly Manson, Cortnie Love, or Brody Dalle! I think someone should slap her for her ignorance. (and post skript excuse my spelling.)

Like everyone else said, the thread started off with comparing two different styles of music. I love Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blur, the Clash, Soundgarden, Cream, so many older banRAB but I also love Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Sarah McLachlan and other singers. I love listening to Avril's music, especially her first cd. Alot of the songs are relaxing and really pretty, and I like her clothes, dvd w/ music viRAB and concert, ext. Her B-sides are good too, like Take It. As for Good Charlotte, Linkin Park and all that, I'm not really big on that many of today's banRAB but for people that like them I don't see the problem. I also don't see why everyone complains about MTV all the time either. I don't have that channel but I used to watch it now and then back in the 80's and early 90's. It's just a tv channel. Although judging from the tv guide it looks like it's mostly filled with reality shows.
 
i guess there's nothing bad in listening to"naked" or "i'm with u" if u really feel like hearing something light , simple, and chilling... but it won't inspire u or put u in the mood as... let's say "stareway to heaven "would do...
 
I agree that rock is not evoling, in fact I think that the newly found Pop "Stars" are taking over. No one seems to have a mind of thier own anymore, they hear the lastest and greatest on MTV. Since MTV is playing it, it might as well be great, RIGHT?? I have not heard or seen anything good on MTV in a long time. Funny story: The only time I've heard anything good on MTV was when I was watching MTV in a forgien country. Goes to show that there are good banRAB out there; for some reason we can't see them. They are and will forever be feeding us F'ing Sh!t. Sorry!!

It seriously pisses me off that Avril, Ashley (heartburn queen) and all the other little girls get this ridiculous amount of money for something someone else wrote, and more than likely someone else will sing. They are just walking talking dolls, for the record companies to control.
 
^^ Avril is a product of L.A. Reid, the same man who was the mastermind behind the stretch pants of MC Hammer. He told her what to sound like, what to wear, and who to deal with. She takes credit for co-writing her own songs, but in all reality her writing team are the ones who come up with the Total Request angst.
