What a load of crap Alice In Wonderland

Surely they want to make money so why only show the film for 12 weeks they wont make any money really on the dvd because no one will buy it because of the shit anaglyph 3d cardboard glasses :mad:

Most films are only in cinemas 8 weeks.

Alice in Wonderland was never going to get 16 weeks on screen. The final month Odeon and Disney are disagreeing about would be what we would usually consider the period between a cinema release and a DVD release.

Disney are not trying to take it out of cinemas early - they just want to bring the film out on DVD quicker.

Most films in my local cinema don't remain on for 3 months anyway - they gotta make room for the new films. But I think you might have it slightly wrong because they are not saying they are only showing it on the cinema for 12 weeks they are saying that the DVD will come out after 12 weeks.

Cinemas are still able to show the film after the DVD is released. Cineworld has already said they are going to be showing the film for 15 weeks.

Mama Mia was released on DVD but it was still showed on the Cinema for weeks after that.

edit: I was beaten to it slightly :)

Also I think maybe it could be a new idea to see if it prevents piracy a little more - if people don't have to wait as long.

That's kind of my point its a moot point because most cinemas don't run films for 3 months, a month at best for really good films and then its either gone or relegated to Saturday Morning 10 am slot.

All the Odeon are doing are cutting off their nose to spite their face. By not showing it at all is just going to lose them money that is it.

Pardon? Shall we try facts?

A three month cinema window is perfectly acceptable.
All 3D anaglyph movies released on DVD or Bluray also contain the standard version.
Quite soon, 3D Bluray will be available.

Why do you need to have an attitude? Is it to make you look more superior and knowledgeable?

A three month cinema window is fine yes, but it's not fact is it? If it was fact there wouldn't be an uproar about Disney not wanting the 16 week window.

3D bluray which will require an upgraded TV and I can't see many people forking out the money for it quite yet as it could be another mini disc/HD-DVD encounter.

Odeon are cutting their nose off to spite their face. All that will happen is that people will see the film in rival cinemas or will wait for the DVD. Either way Odeon loses out and Disney makes money.

Not many companies have anywhere close to the financial muscle that Disney have so it wont effect the majority of cinema releases but if it proves successful then Disney will be looking to follow this model as standard. If it works really well they could even reduce the time period or even have simultaneous release in Cinema and on DVD/BR.

I doubt this will be released with shit anaglyph 3d cardboard glasses. It'll get a standard 2D release and probably a 3D Blu-ray release later on.

It's still not fact though is it? You said let's look at the facts. Surely that's just your opinion, if it was fact then the cinema companies wouldn't be making such an uproar over it. It still doesn't explain your attitude. Because your a qualified projectionist you can be rude? Thank God your not a qualified doctor.

I think the issue is with Disneys attitude of our way or no way, and Odeon chose no way.

Im glad they stood up to them tbh, its just the first in line of many who will follow.

You do know that 3D movies are also released as 2D as well dont you (the 3D isnt mandatory).

Also - by the time the blu-ray comes out - 3D TV's should be on sale in the UK, which dont use cardboard anaglyph glasses.

They haven't. They just caved in. I suspect money is involved.

Another piece of spin from a huge chain with the majority of UK screens, acting with pure greed in mind, to the detriment of the moviegoer.

Most films are now, the backlash of 3D films and the cinema as a spectacle approach....

@hardylane

sorry i wasnt aware at the time that they had reversed their decision, and yes i suspect a large payout was involved in someway.

There is a lot talk about the key argument here, why pay
