What A Cartoon Show vs Oh Yeah Cartoons

This might belong on the Nicktoons or Cartoon Network board, but since I am talking about both shows, I thought this would be an appropriate board to discuess.

These two shows provided an excellent forum for aspiring cartoon makers, to showcase their cartoons to the public, and make short cartoon pilots or series of pilots of the same cartoon, and show it to the general public, and hopefully sell them as series.

Which show did you like better? Which shows had better cartoons? I would go with What A Cartoon show, but Oh Yeah Cartoons had its moments to.

Do you think any of these shows could be released on DVD? I think audience demand and quality wise, they could. But because of all of the different cartoons, they might have legal issues, and we would have to settle for Best Of releases for the respective series (probably excluding all of the cartoons that got spinoffs, which would in a way, it wouldn't be the Best Of).

I say that I like What a Cartoon more probably because I watched it more. It does seem like something that would be hard to release on DVD.

I watched both quite frequently, and can easily say that What A Cartoon! Show was by far superior. Oh Yeah! Cartoons had some alright shorts, but I adored most of what I saw on What A Cartoon! Show. D=

I tend to judge the shows by the quality of the individual shorts, rather than by the shows themselves, as each of them have had an equal amount of hits and misses.

I for one am glad to hear that Nickelodeon will have a succesor show to OHC called Random Cartoons. I hope Cartoon Network could have a successor show to WACS, they had the You Pick It specials, but not a weekly tv series. And Disney Channel should create a cartoon shorts showcase show.

What made these shows so different from show that come before it, is the unpredictablity of what cartoons will air. Normally cartoon shows that show variety of cartoon shorts, would have a lead or star cartoon, one or two supporting cartoons, and you would see the same cartoons every episode.

These shows were like the animated versions of Showtime At The Apollo, the audience decides what shows would stay on the air, would get spinoffs, or be taken off the show. At least that is the way, it should have been.

Those are 5 minute shorts, barely advertised and shown between shows. Not the same as What A Cartoon or Oh Yeah Cartoons, which were treated like the other shows, instead of just a filler. The cartoons are two minute shorter than a WAC or OHC short, which is 7 minute long, but that is minor, the big difference is the lack of a 30 minute time slot. It is more of a filler than a show.

If they had a whole half hour timeslot to show may of these shorts, than it would be like WAC or OYC.

Yeah, there should be a topic for this from not so long ago, but I'll just say my answer again. Never saw too much of Oh Yeah!, didn't watch Nick as much then, but I did love What-A-Cartoon, so that shall be my answer. And I liked WAC's spin-off programs more than OY!C's.

Well if there is a thread for this, I am sorry, I didn't know.

Maybe the moderator could combine the threads, that is what they do on the Avatar Spirit board.

Gotta go with the What-a-Cartoon! Show as I'm more familiar with it. It had a very diverse and unique series of cartoon shorts from some very talented animators. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever see something like it again. I only saw Oh Yeah Cartoons maybe once or twice and from what I saw it was pretty 'meh'. Not that it was bad or anything, but it just didn't have that special quality that WAC had.
