What A Carry On.

I was talking with my gf about carry on movies and we were trying to decide which modern actors or comedians could fill the shoes of Sid and co.
We couldn't really think of anyone for Sid but we came up with a couple for
Joan Sims - Kathy Burke
Terry Scott - Alan Carr
Charles Hawtree - James Dreyfus

I also think Lee Evans would make a good member of any carry on team maybe as a Jim Dale style charachter.

Your thoughts ?
 
I wasn't thinking so much the idea of replacement like clones.
It is more about comparative modern day performers that you would choose , and thier relative roles within that framework if you were about to make a new carry on movie.

I am still struggling to think of anyone who could fill SiRAB shoes , but that was maybe the wrong choice of term.
I am thinking more along the lines of his position as lead man and in a lot of ways thier bonding agent , which Sid was.

All of the actors were typecast in the carry on movies and it's a question of who in this day could be seen in the same way.

For instance my choice of Lee Evans in a Jim Dale type role is based on the fact that Dale always played a particular type of person in the movies and I could see Evans in that type of role.

Hope this clarifies my meaning. :D
 
Hard to see other people playing these kind or roles, but maybe

Steve Coogan = Kenneth williams

And not sure where he'd fit in but think Shane Richie would be a good addition to a new carry on cast
