what 80 and 90 franchise deserves a revival ?

I'm still waiting for a watchable Transformers series that would do G1 some justice. Otherwise I'd say The Thundercats. He-Man & TMNT were revamped tastefully. Heck, I'd even say Gargoyles. Weisman is still in the rookery (when not spinning webs for The Spectacular Spider-Man). Ghostbusters still has legs: pending video game and CGI sequel (TBD).
 
I'd like to see some of WB and Disney's earlier TV shows get some sort of revival, in the form of a new TV show, some DTV movies, or even theatrical short subjects.
 
I'd much prefer some of my favorites to stay as they are. There's tons of things that could go wrong.

- They'd do the show in a horrible anime-wannabe style.

- They'd mess up the character's personalities. So much so that they don't even resemble who they should be.

- They'd try to make it to edgy, something that kids or teens can relate to and make it lame.

These things could either happen separately or all together. However, I would like to see a Thundarr the Barbarian remake but only if it's done by the people who did the 2002 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series. Anyone else might screw it up horribly.

-Saber Rider & the Star Sheriffs

And if we could include live-action:
-You Can't Do that on Television (they could even do as an animated series remake, the main advantage is they could keep the same cast;) )
 
I'd personally rather see studios progress forward with new series than getting a bunch of revivals.

Besides, Adamag, didn't you already create a thread like this? Or maybe even more than one? I've only been here a year, but it seems like all of your threads are about 80's or 90's shows getting an update.

And let's try to remember to explain those choices, folks. List thread rule and all.
 
The reasons I chose those shows is because they each had their own unique humor and charm. People today (especially children) really need that kind of humor and charm.
 
Am I the only one that doesn't want to see another "revival" of some 80s/90s show? Some of these cartoons like He-Man and Voltron are fine for their nostalgia, but IMHO, these shows just weren't all that good. You try and turn something that's plot can be explained in 60 seconds into a movie, it's just not good.
 
I can't really think of anything that needs to be revived besides maybe Animaniacs. I don't know how to describe it but it feels like something that would be okay to see again with new episodes.
 
For sitting on it's ass until the end of the first season with random fillers which were actually remakes of old random fillers before actually getting a kick in the pants with "council" of evil" on, it was only half good.

I`ve read interviews from the original creators that they wanted to do an actual story with the show instead of "He-man saves village X from skeletor, Iteration 23. Skeletor gets away, everyone laughs and learns a moral". Mattel hit them with rediculous constraints such as not being able to kill/send off useless charachters or give new people proper introductions. Heck, the VA of She-Ra was constrained from ever using her "she-Ra" voice for any other production EVER.

So, this begs the question of why did they waste so much time in season 1 after the excellent intrduction movie doing random crap that barely affected the story at all? the answer: Nostalgia. Nostalgia kills.

The series need to be reinvented, with NODS to the original series, not a blow by blow remake like He-Man MOTU 2002. Heck, skeletor calling himself "Overlord of E-ville" probably drew away a lot of people. What villain, other than demons, think they are evil themselves?

Season 2/ end of season 1 was great, and showed the true potential of what a reinvention is supposed to be, but ratings wise, it was too little, too late.
 
I have to say Centurions. That has been one of my favorite 80s cartoon and I feel it deserves a comeback.

Wasn't ThunderCats suppose to get a remake? I heard the rumors but I guess they didn't go through with it.
 
I agree. Hollywood already lacks originality as it is. That being said...there are certain shows that were good enough that deserve revivals. Animaniacs is a good example. Heck, WB should just bring back Looney Tunes! But, yea, ultimately I agree with you.
 
Rather than remade, I'd rather the shows to be reshown on mainstrean channels, not specialised ones, so it's more accessable, like I don't have Boomarang cos I can't afford it. It will get kids to watch better toons. Anyway 80's/90's shows I'd like to come back at Earthworm Jim, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Garfield, Batman, Spiderman, Tiny Toons, some Disney series like Ducktales, Freakazoid, turtles, Johnny Bravo etc
